A Welcoming Community
AMC: Your Outdoors Club and Everyone's Invited
As stewards of the natural world, we’re committed to fostering a welcoming community where people who embody a wide range of experiences and perspectives can come together to explore, protect, and connect with nature. We know that meaningful progress starts from within, which is why our cross-organizational Community Engagement Committee, alongside our Board of Directors, works to ensure we are always learning, improving, and making space for new voices. We welcome feedback from our community—it helps us grow, evolve, and create more accessible AMC experiences. Our vision is clear: a future where nature is healthy, loved, and protected, and where every person has the opportunity to find joy, adventure, and belonging in the outdoors.
Our efforts reflect our commitment to making the outdoors a place for everyone.
Highlighted below are some key areas of focus:

People
AMC is powered by people. Our members, volunteers, and donors bring our work to life. Together we provide a wide range of activities that are just right for anyone interested in exploring the outdoors. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed hike on an accessible trail in your town or ice climbing in New Hampshire’s White Mountains, we’re hosting the perfect trip for you.

Infrastructure
We are assessing AMC’s buildings, including offices, lodges, huts, and campsites, to create comfortable and accessible lodging options. We continually upgrade our physical infrastructure to meet federal ADA accessibility guidelines, and we are regional leaders in All Person Trail construction.

Norms and Values
All clubs have rules to uphold the safety and comfort of its members, and AMC is no exception. We are committed to upholding our Code of Conduct and responding to reports of misalignment. The Code of Conduct includes affirmative standards that apply to all of AMC’s constituents, from staff and volunteers to participants and guests. It defines welcoming norms and values, and it sets expectations for how we respond to reports or concerns about misalignment from within our community. AMC embraces a coaching and mentoring response that supports a culture of feedback to help us all learn. To submit feedback on the Code of Conduct, please email CodeofConduct@outdoors.org.
